17 March 2020
In line with the latest advice from the Australian Federal and Victorian Governments on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 the EOI residency has been postponed to a date later in the year. We encourage artists to still apply for these opportunities.
Although we are not yet able to determine the month they will occur, we will do so soon as the situation becomes clearer, and are currently looking at September – November.
No obligation will be placed on any artist to take up the positions at that later date but we welcome applications now.
Artist in Residence 2020
The Creative Gippsland team annually hosts an Artist in Residence program in May. We partner an artist with a town in each Shire in our Gippsland region - East Gippsland, Wellington, Latrobe, South Gippsland, Baw Baw and Bass Coast. The artist could be a visual artist, performing artist, writer / story teller, poet, dancer etc.
This is an opportunity for an artist to spend 10-14 days in a beautiful, small town and create a piece of work in response to the environment and community.
For the host communities it is an opportunity to spend time with an artist with new ideas and ways of looking at their world, potentially acquiring skills and/or a deeper knowledge of a particular art form or artistic practice.
In a way this residency could be akin to planting a seed in the town – who knows what it will lead to! The intention behind these residencies is to develop new cultural networks, share skills and inspiration, and encourage collaboration between different people and communities. Both the artists and the community need to be willing to engage with each other in an open minded and generous manner.
