Pattern, Painting & Pyrography features new works by Sue Gilford.

Sue works in pyrography, a technique of burning into wood with a hot needle.  She loves experimenting with drawing and painting and incorporating this into timber pieces and gourds she grows on her Agnes property in South Gippsland.  Her subject matter shows her concern and love for the natural environment and wildlife.

Perspectives of an Italian sojourn from Rome to Venice.

As a modern-day tourist from the other side of the world, exploring the streets of such places as Rome, Cortona and Venice, Helen is constantly inspired by the history, quirkiness and the differences in Italian culture compared to her own Australian life.

For this exhibition, she has chosen images or “snapshots” that perhaps aren’t typical idealistic Italian scenes but reminders of what she admires about the Italian way of life.  These ordinary everyday scenes of Italian life including the Venetian markets, small piazzas and even the Roman pigeons are the unassuming things that make me smile and dream of a life more simplistic.

Artists Statement…..Memory Mine

Essentially this body of work evolved around the need to make a series of personal political statements.  In reality there are three such personal observations/protests.  Firstly, the desire of State Government Authorities to remove ‘white’ new born children from single mothers in the fifties of which I have intimate knowledge.  Secondly, the willingness of Federal and State Governments to promote the construction of memorials which honour people’s sacrifice in war and which helps promote armed conflict.  Lastly, to expose the self-indulgent nature of our ‘Capitalist Materialist Society’ and the effects it is having on the destruction of our planet.

All works had a number of inspirations and the resultant visual symbols and mood of the pieces hopefully testify to this.

Prom Coast Arts Council presents - ZULYA in Concert

February 25, 2017 @ 8:00 PM

Multi award-winning Zulya Kamalova - a leading proponent of Tatar and Russian music - will perform at Waratah Hills Vineyard, Fish Creek.

Zulya is regarded as one of the most versatile and accomplished vocalists on the world music scene today.

Zulya began performing publicly at the age of nine throughout Tatarstan-Udmurtia in central Russia, where she was born.  Having studied both music and language at the university level, Zulya chose to relocate to Australia in 1991, inspired by our reputation for diversity, and hoping to share her music and culture here.

She has released eight albums to date, including the ARIA-nominated “Elusiive’, and, together with her band The Children of the Underground, “The Waltz of Emptiness”, which on its release in Europe in 2005, spent 16 weeks in the European world music charts - a feat no other Australian album has ever achieved.

Tickets will cost $30 and will be available from the usual outlets in Fish Creek and Foster.

Venue: Waratah Hills Vineyard, 20 Cottmans Rd, Fish Creek VIC 3959
