The Crow Family - Performed by the Pidd-Davey Family

July 27, 2017 @ 7:30 PM
West Gippsland Arts Centre

Nobody saw this happen so it may or may not be true.

A woman lives in the middle of a city, next to a tree that smells of lemons.  In this tree lives a family of crows, but their home is threatened by developers looking to build inner city apartments where factories and shops used to be.  One day, the child of the crows falls from the nest.  As night falls, the neighbourhood cats move in for the kill.  The woman intervenes and her encounter with the crows and their child transforms her life and ultimately transforms her.

Told by real life family, Maude Davey, David Pidd and their children, Alice (17) and Leo (10) in the tradition of travelling show biz troupes of old, The Crow Family shares this urban parable alongside songs, confessions, tales of famous and infamous families, Alice and Leo’s rule for being a good parent, and servings of cake.  It’s about urban scavengers and what we can learn from them, about children growing up and leaving home, about taking care of the world we share with birds and beasts.  The Crow Family is an insight into the delicate and difficult business of being a family.

The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez

The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez

August 26, 2017 @ 7:30 PM

Lola Montez horsewhipped the editor of the Ballarat Times (for a bad review).  Swung down mineshafts on a single rope with champagne in hand.  Escaped arrest dressed only in her jewels.  Showered with gold nuggets and insults.  Swathed in scandal.  Her erotic Spider Dance was "the most libertinish and indelicate performance that could be given on the public stage" (Sydney Morning Herald 1855).

A brand new drama decked in couture lace, a thousand true lies, jaw-dropping dance, multi-award winning storytelling, sultry song and a death scene or three.  Starring triple best actress award winner and direct descendent of Lola Montez, Caroline Lee, and Parisienne dance siren Holly Durant.

Venue: Trafalgar Public Hall, 32 Contingent Street, Trafalgar 3824

Mystery in the Air - starring Michael Veitch and Simon Oats

Mystery in the Air - starring Michael Veitch and Simon Oats

September 14, 2017 @ 7:30 PM
West Gippsland Arts Centre

Comedy legend Michael Veitch with Simon Oats revive the golden era of 1940’s radio drama – 50 voices + 100 sound effects = 2 very busy actors!

Take a couple of hilariously antiquated radio plays, add two somewhat over-stressed actors and you're ON THE AIR with 'Mystery in the Air!'  This is the show that transports audiences back to the style, the fashion and - let's face it - the sheer political incorrectness of the 1940s.  Of course, back in those days, such luxuries as a proper cast and a sound effects department were the norm, but in these economically stringent times, it's all down to just our boys - costumes, sound effects, scene changes, music, voices - they'll do the lot.  It's a big ask, and occasionally they might even succeed.  The results, say audiences, are hilarious!
