Damien Leith – Tribute to Roy Orbison

Wonthaggi Arts Centre

After a sold-out run of ROY – A Tribute To Roy Orbison to metropolitan centres in 2016, revered singer-songwriter Damien Leith is gearing up to revisit the music of his idol in 2017 for a special The Hall of Fame Tour.

Taking the show to regional Australia, the tour is an opportunity for Damien to perform in towns he hasn’t played in years, or if at all. When the ROY show toured the capital cities earlier in the year, it was always his plan to take it on the road to country Australia.

Damien has always had a strong affinity with Roy’s music. He recorded and worked with the late Barbara Orbison and continues to write with legendary musicians in Nashville who worked with Roy throughout his career. In fact, when Damien released his album Roy – A Tribute to Roy Orbison it stayed in the ARIA Top 20 chart for 22 weeks and it was nominated for not only an ARIA award, but also sold multi-platinum.

Although regarded as Australia’s finest guitar duo performing much of the instrument’s standard classical repertoire, the Grigoryan Brothers’ passion is to expand their horizons through new arrangements, their own compositions and commissions.

This ambition can be heard as the brothers take the guitar into genres such as jazz, folk and contemporary music. There are no boundaries, only new frontiers to cross. In concert, mix it all together and you have a dimension to guitar-playing rarely seen in the musical world.

The Crow Family - Performed by the Pidd-Davey Family

The Crow Family - Performed by the Pidd-Davey Family

West Gippsland Arts Centre

Nobody saw this happen so it may or may not be true.

A woman lives in the middle of a city, next to a tree that smells of lemons.  In this tree lives a family of crows, but their home is threatened by developers looking to build inner city apartments where factories and shops used to be.  One day, the child of the crows falls from the nest.  As night falls, the neighbourhood cats move in for the kill.  The woman intervenes and her encounter with the crows and their child transforms her life and ultimately transforms her.

Told by real life family, Maude Davey, David Pidd and their children, Alice (17) and Leo (10) in the tradition of travelling show biz troupes of old, The Crow Family shares this urban parable alongside songs, confessions, tales of famous and infamous families, Alice and Leo’s rule for being a good parent, and servings of cake.  It’s about urban scavengers and what we can learn from them, about children growing up and leaving home, about taking care of the world we share with birds and beasts.  The Crow Family is an insight into the delicate and difficult business of being a family.
