A Fine Line - Drawings from the Collection

A Fine Line - Drawings from the Collection

from June 18, 2016 @ 10:00 AM until October 02, 2016 @ 4:00 PM
Gippsland Art Gallery - Sale

The ability to draw is a fundamental tenet of art making, and has been both a means and an end to creating art for centuries.

At its core drawing has the power to excite, move and delight with the simplest of gestures and the most basic of means. As the most humble method of making a picture, it remains also the most enduring test of an artist’s skill and daring.

A Fine Line assembles a range of works from the collection whose only commonality is their abiding respect for the drawn line, and the artistic prowess of their makers.

Gecko Studio Gallery & Arthouse

Drawing on artists who have exhibited in the past at Gecko Studio Gallery, along with a number of new artists, ‘The Gathering 2016’ is the next exhibition to open at this popular contemporary gallery in Fish Creek.

‘The Gathering 2016’ is Gecko’s 2nd annual winter/spring exhibition which will run through to 19 November, when they will kick off once again with their monthly exhibitions through the summer/autumn months.

‘The Gathering 2016’ is an extension of the Stockroom at Gecko, which means if you decide you would like to purchase an artwork from the exhibition, you can take it away before the exhibition closes, making this a fluid, ever changing showcase of artists for the five month duration.

Some of the artists in this exciting exhibition include Kate Zizys, Susan Purdy, Peter Cole, Geoffrey Ricardo, Christine Larsen, Leigh Fraser, Tommy Pau, Dennis Leversha, Chris Tuttle, Adam Nudelman, Owen Rye and Kerry Spokes, with some surprise additions along the way!

Discreet Montage

Discreet Montage

from July 23, 2016 @ 9:00 AM until October 02, 2016 @ 4:00 PM
Latrobe Regional Gallery

The observational cinema of Barry Brown & Irene Proebsting.

Discreet montage features a selection of experimental (non)fictions including post-industrial reportage, ambient family portraits and found quotidian abstraction.

Shot on Super 8 film and edited in camera, the films are un-staged spontaneous recordings, utilising chance and improvisation as structuring devices to generate atmospheric narratives.

Similarly, the soundtracks privilege the accidental, predominately focused upon aesthetic errors and psychological ambience – a silent cinema fabricated from open-ended scores, magnetic tape manipulations and unusual guitar tunings.

The films are lyrical, unconscious constructs, featuring the familiar and the unfamiliar, a discreet cacophony of aleatory auras and everyday illusions.

The exhibition screens video projections with ambi-phonal sound from the original Super 8 prints.
